    Photobucket

Cute, huh?! Well, yeah!!! I'm a little anxious about voting...the lines are gonna be hella long...sheesh!! But it'll all be worth it once my boy is in office!!!

An aside: A few of my white child-hood friends are expressing some pretty strong and sorrowful opinions about today through their facebook statuses...I guess I would too if the shoe were on the other foot...so I'm not going to be TOO hard on them, but they need to chill out with all this "WHOA is ME" shit....whatever happens, happens!!! "Y'all ain't ready, Y'all Ain't Ready!!! What's up, What's up!!!" LOL!!

    GO VOTE, YO!!!

    Minor Update

Wut it do?! I now have a working laptop pc...but the operating system is A MESS...so don't be surprised if within the next 24 days I'm incognito AGAIN! Anyhoo...just want to mention a few things quickly...

ELECTION DAY IS FREAKING LESS THAN 2 DAYS AWAY!!!!! PLEASE GO OUT AND VOTE!! Please do not sit on your asses ON THIS VERY IMPORTANT AND HISTORY MAKING DAY! I've heard a few folks say that they are not going to vote because things are sure to be hectic (with traffic, long lines at the polls, and what-not.) Shit, November 4th should be made into a National Holiday in instances like this (Pres. Elections)...NO WORK!! But because it's not...go to work...BUT GO VOTE TOO!! And if you got time at work, TAKE A FREAKIN DAY OFF!!! It's not going to hurt you if you've got the time saved up anyway.

I, personally, am making the 4th a holiday. I'm not going to classes, a friend and I are going to vote together, and then we're going out to lunch!!!! Can't wait!! My sorority chapter (Iota Phi, AKA) is also having an Election Watch Party to see how the votes turn out. It's gonna be pretty big! Oh, and we got shirts made! :-) They're cute!! I'll try to put up a pic BEFORE Tuesday...If not...maybe after.

So yeah...This week is sure to be exciting and interesting...either way!! Remember to do your part and GO VOTE!!!

Oh...and after Tuesday, this joint is getting a facelift!! That's all for now...TTYL!

    SINGLE WOMEN EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

It's that time of year again...(upped/revamped from last year)

    Photobucket

    IT'S SINGLE WORKING WOMAN'S WEEK!!! (July 29th-August 4th)

I helped my single friends and loved ones celebrate this week, last year, and we're back at it again. I will culminate this observance in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores with one of my best friends who happens to be a single working woman. Her birthday is actually on the 4th.

For those of you who are oblivious to this holiday...check it out!

"SWWANs share in the joy as their friends celebrate impending marriages with showers, bachelorette parties, weddings. It's not unusual to spend a boatload of cash on these celebrations for friends going into a 2-income situation. Until now, one-income single working women have had no official occasion to celebrate like those for their getting-married friends.

What happens during Single Working Women's Week?
Single Working Women's Week is a chance to celebrate your courage and creativity. It's also a chance for those who love and respect you to help you celebrate. It's an excuse for them to shower you with cards and attention.

Single Working Women's Week is a week all its own--not connected with any other holiday--so your celebration can be undiluted. It's just for you and your single working women friends and colleagues. it's a great opportunity for the people you love and cherish and serve to show you how much they appreciate all you do."

Single Working Women's Week is a relatively new national observance. Please feel free to visit the SWWAN website here to find out more about the observance and what you can do to celebrate, or help a friend or loved one celebrate.

**Now on to my soap box!
We ALL know women in our lives who work like slaves, carrying 1, 2, or even 3 jobs just to make ends-meet. Some of these same women have children to support--mouths to feed, tuition to pay, etc. Well here's the opportunity to show them how much we appreciate their contributions to our families, businesses, and society as a whole. Single women, working to support themselves and/or children deserve a round of applause, a pat-on the back, a standing ovation and much, much more.

Ladies, do something special for yourself, or treat a friend. You deserve it, trust me, you do! Hip other women to this holiday, get the word out so it becomes more nationally known.

This post is dedicated to my aunts Benita, Helen, and Barbara, and to all my SWWs all around the blogosphere! I love y'all, you are appreciated.

Today is a GREAT day, people!! July 3rd is Compliment Your Mirror Day, so in honor of this, I am playing the song that was played at my probate/presentation when we did the mirror check. I KNOW I GOT IT! LADIES, do you???????????

    OOPS...I forgot...

    Photobucket

Today is...yep, you guessed it! I FORGOT DAY!!!! A definition of this quirky holiday was taken from this here site:

I Forgot Day, by definition, today is not a day to remember. So, just what are you forgetting? Can you even remember? Is it important? Hopefully, not.
Some days are days to remember and to cherish all of our lives. Others, like today, are ones to be forgotten. If you are having a bad day, it's just as well that today is I Forgot Day. We do hope that you are not getting married or having a baby today.
Some people view today as an opportunity to express their regrets for forgetting something, and to make amends. They do so by sending cards and flowers, apologizing for their memory lapse. The trouble is, if you forget something important tomorrow, you have to wait a whole year for the next
    I Forgot Day to arrive.

So there you have it, friends. Things I forgot to do up until today:

    --Call my cousin
--Email those pics to my soror
--Email that lady about my AP scores

My list isn't bad at all. What are some things you conveniently (or not so much) forgot to do/say/whatever???

    Hey y'all...

    Photobucket

As I've been telling y'all since the beginning of the month, today is LET IT GO DAY (check the sidebar for Holiday Authenticity).

Whatever stress or worries you are carrying with you right now, today is the day to let some if not ALL of it go, and reclaim some control over the everyday happenings of your life. I'm just coming off of a long, yet enjoyable weekend, so I'm really tired. It's my goal to post Keyshia's video for Let It Go in this entry, so maybe if you check back after 5pm, it'll be up. But yeah...

I added music to the blog, hope you enjoy it! I think it's a nice little touch. Anyhoo, I should be back later on with a NEW WORD OF THE DAY post...I found some interesting stuff out Friday before I got off of work. I'll share it with you all later. Right now, I'm mentally exhausted, and it hurts to keep my eyes open.

    Other stuff coming up soon:
--Recap and pics of the Greek Picnic
--Possible video footage of the Greek Picnic
    --My random rantings :-)

So...good morning, and LET THAT SHIT GO! ;-)

To make up for the Holidays I will "miss" while on vay-cay

While I'm on vacation, there are a few holidays I won't be able to cover. The only reason I'm taking my lap top is so I can keep my iPod charged and burn CDs.

The first Holiday I will miss is Sisters and Frienship Day. I have made 3 posts about friendships, so make sure to check them out if you already haven't. On this day, August 5th, please get together with your friends and sisters (biological, sorority, sisters in Christ, play-play, whatever), and do something fun. Go out to eat, go to a movie, go to the club. DO SOMETHING TOGETHER. True Friends last a LIFETIME, I'm telling you. Make a point to call or email friends who live far away from you to let them know they've been on your mind. K.I.T., if you will. Buy cards, candy, and/or balloons for friends or sisters. Everyone probably has at least 1 of each (under my definition).

The second is National Underwear Day, which is observed on August 8th. The only thing I can glean from this holiday is to make sure you have on clean, hole-free underwear when you go out that day. Also, it'd be fun to buy some new lingerie, ladies. Or some new boxers, fellas...Think about it, it's an investment in "preserving your sexy" and your dignity.

August 12th is International Youth Day. It is a Sunday, so if you know a young person who does not attend church, or you are one of those people, invite them to go to church with you or go to church with a friend or relative. Afterwards, sit down for a nice lunch or dinner in a restaurant (not McDonalds). It's Youth Day, so this day is for the kids!!! Also, youth, take this time to enjoy what so many people covet and pay money to get back to. Go ride a bike, take a walk in the park, go skating, go skinny-dipping (umm...maybe not). We're always complaining about not having a day...well, here it is. Do it big on your day! It only comes around once a year! Oh and as far as what is considered youth, man, if you're 55 and you think your 15--I say DO YOU!! If you are confident and vibrant enough to roll with the youngins, you deserve this day as much as they do!!

    Last but definitely not least...

From August 10th-12th, I and others will be celebrating Kool-Aid Day! Nuff said...Kool-Aid is the shit, and the mascot is funny as hell (yet weird and destructive). Take this time to make you some kool-aid to quench your thirst instead of drinking water (shit, it's only 3 days). Make up new flavors and if you're bold, set up a "lemonade-style" stand and sell your concoctions. I know I make up some concoctions, baby!! LOL...But it's just an over-all fun weekend to celebrate the joys of Kool-Aid. Harmless fun, if you ask me.

    Wednesday, August 1, 2007

    GOOD MORNING!!! It's August 1st!!!!!

Hello people! Today begins a new month, and (to me), one of the most exciting months of this year!! Today, I supposedly find out who my new roommates will be for this school year (ETA: won't find out til 8/6), I get paid today (YEAAAH!!!), and I get to go shopping. This whole month promises to be jammed-packed with exciting, fun, and fulfilling things to do. Plus I have MANY friends and family members who celebrate birthdays and anniversaries during this month!

Well, on to business...There are a number of holidays and observances that I would like for y'all to be aware of... one of the most important being Black Business Month.

Here is a run-down of some of the monthly and weekly observances in the month of August:

Black Business Month- As black people, we should be willing to stand united and support our brothers and sisters in their economic endeavors. Chances are, they are selling products that will benefit blacks anyway. I know that their are some black-owned businesses that make you wanna scratch your eyes out (rude staff, extremely high prices, always out of desired product), but let's not count them ALL out. If you can, scope around your town and check out some of the black-owned businesses in your area. In order to come up, we've got to stick together!!

Cataract Awareness Month and Children's Eye Health and Safety Month- Self explanatory. Get your eyes checked, damn-it! I got an eye-appointment on the 3rd!!

Learn Japanese Month- My homeboy is taking Japanese in school, and I love Japanese anime. It's always a good idea to try to pick up another language, whether it be Spanish, French, Italian, or Japanese!! (**)

    Weekly Observances

World Breastfeeding Week (Aug. 1-7)- I plan on breastfeeding when I have a child. I think it's a wonderful bonding experience for mother and child, plus it helps the baby's immune system.
    (**)

National Resurrect Romance Week (Aug. 12-18)- I don't have a boo, but all I can say is if you DO have one, do something special for him or her to let them know you'd give the world to them. No matter what apethetic assholes say, ROMANCE IS NOT DEAD!!!!

Weird Contest Week (Aug. 13-17)- Come up with a cooky contest each day, and winners of these contest should win a PRIZE (oooh)...

And with that folks, I'm out. Make sure to check out the right-hand side of the page to see the daily-observances. Live a little and partcipate in some of them! You might actually have fun!!! Remember to MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!

(**)--More to come on particular subject (possibly)

    IT'S SINGLE WORKING WOMEN'S WEEK!!! (July 29th-August 4th)

    July is almost over...

...and I've added new aspects to the blog, such as a "Holidays" section and a section for announcements as well. Since it's the end of July, there's really no need to list all of the daily holidays, and weekly and monthly observances that we missed. So, you will only see 3 entries. I want you all to take note that some of these holidays are bizzare, but that's why I like them!

A guy I graduated with named Michael was CRAZY about wacky holidays. He was really cool! Everyday, he'd come in either Economics class, or Britt Lit talking about what day it was. He's a really fun-spirited guy, and I'm glad to know someone like him! I wonder if he still observes those same holidays...LOL

But yeah, some of the holidays are serious, and well known. Most are not. Take it for what it is, and have fun with it. Some people go around wishing everyday was a "holiday"...well as I will show you, it can be!

Enjoy, and don't forget, tomorrow is National Milk Chocolate Day! OMG I love chocolate, and I just realized I read it wrong. I read: "National Milk Day", which sounds kind of boring...but NOW I SEE!!! OOH Imma make sure I get the largest Hershey Bar I can find, and Imma go to town on that bad boy!

See, wacky holidays are the JUNK!
    But that's all for now!
